UCLA.com is the gateway to all UCLA websites. The gateway's purpose is to frame and advance UCLA’s public mission, values and strategic priorities. In 2019, I was the art director for the team that set out to redesign the experience. Our mission was to reflect the University's strategic priorities, update the site look and feel, and address today's security and compliance requirements.
The design direction was inspired by UCLA’s mission and values. The new Gateway design emphasizes several of UCLA’s distinct character traits: openness, creativeness, drive and engagement. We brought these traits to life through the use of generous whitespace, elements that break containers, rules that drive the eye from one element to another and softer, more approachable interactive elements. The design also enhances accessibility through improved contrast, link strategy and clear structure.
